HUNTSVILLE, Texas — In an exciting showdown on Thursday night, Youngstown State managed to secure a 72-62 victory over Monmouth, thanks to standout performances from Nico Galette and EJ Farmer, each contributing 16 points.

Galette played an impressive game, also grabbing 10 rebounds, while Farmer supported the offense with seven rebounds of his own. Ty Harper added to the Penguins’ total with a solid performance, scoring 12 points and hitting three of his six shots from the field, in addition to converting five out of six attempts from the free-throw line.

On the other side of the court, Monmouth fought hard despite the loss, led by Jaret Valencia who scored 18 points and secured eight rebounds. Abdi Bashir Jr. was another key player for the Hawks, putting up 14 points along with three steals. Madison Durr also contributed to Monmouth’s efforts with 11 points.

During the first half, Galette managed to score 10 points, but Youngstown State found itself trailing at halftime with a score of 38-29. The Penguins returned to the court energized in the second half and executed a crucial 12-0 run, allowing them to regain control and take a 43-42 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining. In this revitalized performance, Farmer emerged as a significant player by contributing 14 points in the second half.

This victory brings Youngstown State’s record to 2-2, as they continue to build momentum in the ongoing season.
