The NFL has alerted teams and the players’ union about a rising trend in burglaries, particularly affecting the homes of prominent athletes, including Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
According to internal communications acquired by various sources, the league indicated that residences of professional athletes across different sports have seen an alarming increase in burglaries orchestrated by well-organized and skilled criminal groups.
Local law enforcement has confirmed that these groups often monitor athlete schedules and specifically target their homes on game days. In light of these incidents, players have been advised to enhance their home security systems and adopt additional safety measures to diminish the likelihood of being victimized.
Reports suggest that some of these burglary rings conduct thorough surveillance, researching their targets before breaking in. Their tactics have included staging fake home deliveries and pretending to be joggers or groundskeepers in the vicinity.
Intruders have gained access by utilizing side entrances, balconies, and even second-floor windows. Their preferred targets are often residences located in secluded areas, with a particular focus on master bedrooms and closets to maximize their loot.
Athletes were also cautioned against sharing real-time updates on social media regarding their whereabouts or daily routines. It was recommended that they refrain from posting images of valuable possessions online, as this could lead to increased risks.
The break-ins at the homes of Mahomes and Kelce took place within a few days of each other, just ahead of the Chiefs’ 26-13 victory against the New Orleans Saints on October 7. This significant game featured Taylor Swift, Kelce’s famous girlfriend, in attendance. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during these alarming incidents.
