LEICESTER, England — Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury, as confirmed by manager Steve Cooper on Thursday.
The 20-year-old player sustained the injury while representing Ghana in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola last Friday.
Fatawu had recently made his mark with Leicester, a team that has returned to the English Premier League this season and is considered one of the clubs at risk of relegation.
Cooper expressed his disappointment by stating, “It’s a tough situation, especially for someone so young. This is a significant setback for him and for our team.” He emphasized the importance of supporting Fatawu during his recovery process, aiming to ensure that his rehabilitation is effective and as seamless as possible.
The manager added, “Even though it’s a long road ahead due to the nature of the injury, we remain hopeful that he will return as a stronger and improved player, both on and off the pitch.” Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the focus now shifts to providing the necessary assistance as the young talent begins his recovery journey.
The news has left the team in a difficult position, facing challenges without one of their promising young players.
