MANHATTAN, Kan. — Ayoka Lee propelled the Kansas State women’s basketball team to a resounding 111-46 victory over Milwaukee with a stellar performance, scoring 25 points. The Wildcats, ranked No. 10, featured a balanced offensive effort as six players finished in double figures during the game on Wednesday night.
Jaelyn Glenn contributed 17 points, Serena Sundell added 16, and Zyanna Walker chipped in 13 points for Kansas State (5-0), who will face a tougher challenge against No. 14 Duke on Monday night in the Ball Dawgs Classic taking place near Las Vegas.
The Wildcats made a strong start, racing to a 20-4 lead, and ended the first period with a 27-11 advantage. By halftime, they had further widened their lead to 54-18, and Milwaukee (2-4) was unable to mount any comeback in what turned into a one-sided encounter.
With this win, Kansas State not only improved to 5-0 for the third straight year but also celebrated their 400th victory at Bramlage Coliseum. Conversely, Jorey Buwalda was the top scorer for Milwaukee with just eight points.
Looking at recent performances, Milwaukee entered the game following an 82-45 defeat to Wisconsin, although two of its prior losses came during overtime contests. For Kansas State, last year’s early season was particularly strong, as they won 20 of their first 21 matches.
A pivotal moment occurred at the start of the game when Sundell scored just 12 seconds in; Lee then followed with two quick layups, setting the tone for the Wildcats.
A key statistic from the game showcases Kansas State’s dominance: they outscored Milwaukee 56-18 in the paint, had a staggering 58-16 advantage on the boards, shot an impressive 60% from the field, and tallied 27 assists compared to Milwaukee’s five. They also excelled in fastbreak points (20-0) and second-chance points (20-6).
Next, Milwaukee will return home to take on Northern Illinois on Sunday, while Kansas State is set to clash with Duke. The winner of that matchup will then face either No. 9 Oklahoma or DePaul in the championship game of the Ball Dawgs Classic on Wednesday.
