RICHMOND, Va. — In a competitive matchup, Richmond secured a narrow 70-66 victory over Maine on Wednesday evening, with Jason Roche making a significant contribution by scoring 19 points.
Roche excelled from beyond the arc, making five of his eight attempts from three-point territory, and was efficient from the free-throw line, sinking four out of five attempts.
The Spiders, now holding a record of 2-3, also saw Delonnie Hunt add 15 points to the scoreboard, although his shooting performance was less than stellar as he hit only two of nine shots, failing to connect on three attempts from long range.
However, Hunt capitalized at the charity stripe, converting 11 of 13 free-throw attempts, while also contributing four steals on the defensive end.
Jonathan Beagle contributed 12 points for Richmond, making five of his ten shots from the floor.
For the Black Bears, who share the same record of 2-3, AJ Lopez was the standout performer with 19 points.
Maine also benefited from a strong showing by Kellen Tynes, who recorded 18 points alongside seven rebounds.
Quion Burns rounded out the scoring with 10 points, in addition to grabbing eight rebounds and recording three steals.
The first half saw Roche score 10 points, though Richmond found themselves trailing at halftime, 27-25.
The second half proved pivotal as Delonnie Hunt’s impressive performance, scoring 15 points, helped secure the four-point win for Richmond.
