DEKALB, Ill. — In an impressive display of teamwork and skill, Elon University triumphed over Northern Illinois with a decisive score of 75-48 on Wednesday evening.
TK Simpkins showcased his talent by scoring 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, leading the Phoenix to this important victory, which brings their season record to 2-2.
His brother, TJ Simpkins, was also instrumental in the win, contributing 16 points on a shooting performance of 4 for 9 from the field and 7 for 8 from the free-throw line.
Sam Sherry added to the effort with a solid performance, finishing the game with 12 points by shooting 3 for 6 from the field and a perfect 5 for 5 from the foul line.
On the other side, Northern Illinois (2-3) struggled to gain momentum throughout the game, with James Dent Jr. leading his team by scoring 16 points and providing four assists.
Quentin Jones contributed nine points, while Quaran McPherson matched that total and contributed four steals.
Despite the efforts of these players, the Huskies could not keep pace with Elon’s offensive performance.
The Phoenix took command early in the first half, establishing a lead at the 17-minute mark that they maintained for the duration of the game.
TK Simpkins was particularly effective in the first period, scoring nine points and helping his team secure a 38-29 lead by halftime.
In the second half, Elon continued to assert itself, culminating in a 13-2 scoring streak that pushed their advantage to 75-45.
TJ Simpkins emerged as the top scorer in the second half, adding 11 points to the total as Elon closed out the decisive victory.
