Ohio State Dominates Ohio with a Dazzling 106-42 Win
Athens, Ohio — In a stunning display of talent, the No. 12 Ohio State women’s basketball team triumphed over Ohio with an overwhelming score of 106-42. Freshman standout Elsa Lemmila delivered an impressive performance, contributing a career-best 21 points and securing 14 rebounds on Wednesday night. Fellow freshman Jaloni Cambridge also shone brightly, scoring all her 19 points in the first half, helping the Buckeyes establish a remarkable 40-point lead.
The game started off strongly for Ohio State, as they rapidly accumulated the first 17 points. Cambridge showcased exceptional shooting skills, finishing the first half with an impressive 9-of-11 from the field, which boosted the Buckeyes’ advantage to 45-16 with just over four minutes left in the second quarter.
By halftime, Ohio State had stretched its lead to a staggering 40 points. Despite their efforts, Ohio struggled both offensively and defensively; they made only 5 of 18 attempts from the field, while also dealing with 26 turnovers that allowed Ohio State to convert into 34 points. The Buckeyes managed to connect on 5 of 18 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half as well.
In a show of depth, Ohio State had six players score in double figures, even without one of their key players, Cotie McMahon, who was sidelined due to an injury. Taylor Thierry contributed significantly with her fifth career double-double, scoring 13 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds. Chance Gray added 18 points, Ajae Petty contributed 13, and Ava Watson chipped in another 10 points.
On the Ohio side, Bailey Tabeling led the team with nine points, but it was not nearly enough to keep pace with the dominant Buckeyes. Historically, Ohio State has excelled in the series against Ohio, now boasting a record of 24-1, and they have won all seven encounters in Athens.
Looking ahead, Ohio State will head back home to face Bowling Green on Sunday, while the Bobcats are set to compete at Wright State on the same day. The impressive performance from the Buckeyes leaves them eager to build on their momentum as the season progresses.
