Catcher Jacob Stallings has reached an agreement with the Colorado Rockies on a one-year contract valued at $2.5 million, as announced on Wednesday.
The contract stipulates a $2 million salary for the upcoming season and includes a mutual option for the year 2026, featuring a base buyout of $500,000. Additionally, the agreement includes incentives that increase by $150,000 if he catches 80 games, another $150,000 for 90 games, and a further $200,000 if he reaches the 100-game mark behind the plate.
Last season, the 34-year-old Stallings achieved personal bests with the Rockies, finishing with a batting average of .263, hitting nine home runs, and having a slugging percentage of .453. He was notable for catching 12 runners attempting to steal bases, ranking him as the 12th most effective catcher in that statistical category.
Stallings was drafted in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012 after completing his collegiate career at the University of North Carolina. Over nine seasons, he has participated in 534 games across MLB teams, including the Pirates, Miami Marlins, and Rockies, compiling 33 home runs and 184 RBIs.
In recognition of his exceptional defensive skills, Stallings was awarded the 2021 NL Gold Glove award for the catcher position. He also noteworthy holds the major league record for the longest streak without a passed ball as a catcher, going an impressive 247 games from August 18, 2020, until April 4, 2023.
