ROME — Pope Francis has declared plans to canonize Carlo Acutis in April, marking the date when the young Italian will be recognized as the first millennial and digital saint within the Catholic Church.
At the conclusion of his weekly general audience on Wednesday, the Pope revealed that this significant event will take place during the Jubilee of Adolescents at the Vatican, scheduled from April 25 to April 27.
Subsequently, officials confirmed that the official canonization Mass will be held on April 27 at the Vatican.
Carlo Acutis, who was born in London to Italian parents, was a talented web designer who succumbed to leukemia in Italy in 2006 at the young age of 15.
He was beatified by Pope Francis in 2020 in Assisi, a location that has since become a pilgrimage site frequented by many.
Often referred to as the “patron saint of the internet,” Acutis harnessed his digital skills to create a website dedicated to documenting miracles and managed websites for various local Catholic organizations.
In May, Pope Francis had revealed approval for a second miracle attributed to Acutis’ intercession, which led to the announcement made on Wednesday.
