COLLEGE PARK, Md. — In a dominating performance, Julian Reese recorded a double-double by halftime, leading Maryland to a staggering 108-37 victory over Canisius on Tuesday night. This triumph marked Maryland’s second-largest victory margin in its history, coming just behind a 75-point blowout against North Texas on December 23, 1998. The Terrapins have now extended their winning streak against unranked nonconference teams to 19 games, and this marks their first time exceeding 100 points since a 105-65 victory over Alcorn State last season on December 6.
Reese contributed significantly to the win, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Selton Miguel put up 15 points, with 13 of those scored in the first half. By the time the halftime buzzer sounded, Maryland held a commanding 59-14 lead, with Canisius struggling to score, going over nine minutes without a point during the opening period.
Season record-wise, Marylands’ current standing is at 4-1 following a previous loss at home to No. 15 Marquette, which ended 78-74. The Terrapins were efficient shooting throughout the game, finishing with over 50% accuracy from the field in both halves and ending with a shooting percentage of 54% (17 of 33). Additionally, the team excelled from the free-throw line, hitting 21 of 25 attempts (84%).
Rodney Rice was another important contributor for Maryland, adding 13 points to the scoreboard. Other notable performances included Jay Young with 12 points and a trio of players—Ja’Kobi Gillespie, Derik Queen, and Malachi Palmer—who each scored 10 points.
For Canisius, the scoring efforts from Paul McMillan IV and Tana Kopa, who each managed to score 10 points, were not nearly enough to counter Maryland’s explosive offense.
This game concluded a five-game homestand for Maryland, and they are set to face Villanova next in Newark, New Jersey, on Sunday.
