SOUTH BEND, Ind. — In a decisive home game, Markus Burton contributed significantly to Notre Dame’s victory over North Dakota, scoring 29 points with 13 of those coming in the second half. This performance propelled the Fighting Irish to a 75-58 win on Tuesday night.

Burton, who entered the game averaging nearly 18 points per game, showcased his shooting skills by hitting 13 of his 20 field goal attempts. Alongside his scoring, he tallied nine rebounds and three assists, nearly matching his career-high from last season’s game against Wake Forest. J.R. Konieczny supported the effort with 12 points.

Despite a challenging outing from beyond the arc, where they connected on only 3 of 17 attempts, Notre Dame managed to shoot an impressive 52% overall. They dominated the paint, outscoring North Dakota 46-24, and capitalized on defensive plays that led to 17 points from 15 turnovers, including nine steals, five of which were achieved by Julian Roper II.

For North Dakota, Treysen Eaglestaff led the team with 13 points, while both Mier Panoam and Dariyus Woodson contributed 11 points each as the Fighting Hawks fell to a 2-2 record.

Taking control early in the second half, Notre Dame, leading 38-31 at halftime, went on an 18-6 run over six minutes to extend their advantage to 17 points, with Burton scoring eight of those points. A basket from Matt Allocco, assisted by Burton during a fast break, further increased the lead to 18 points with just four minutes left in the game.

Before tip-off, Notre Dame disclosed that 6-foot-6 guard Sir Mohammed, regarded as their top freshman recruit, had undergone surgery for a “lower body injury” and would be out indefinitely. Mohammed had participated in the team’s first two games this season, averaging 2.5 points.
