BOSTON — In an impressive performance, Boston College triumphed over Loyola Maryland with a score of 82-61 on Tuesday evening. Chad Venning led the way for the Eagles with 17 points, while Donald Hand Jr. made a significant impact by contributing all 15 of his points in the second half of the game.

Hand was particularly explosive, scoring 13 points within the first 12 minutes of the second half, allowing Boston College to maintain a lead of 10 or more points for the final segment of the match. Additionally, Hand showcased his versatility by securing 14 rebounds, marking a notable trend for the Eagles, as they have now had a player achieve a double-double in both points and rebounds for four consecutive games.

Other notable contributions came from Roger McFarlane, who added 12 points, while both Dion Brown and Fred Payne chipped in with 10 points each, marking a career high for Payne. Boston College dominated the boards with a rebounding advantage of 49-29, including a remarkable 22 offensive boards.

In the first half, Venning helped set the tone by scoring 10 points, which aided Boston College in taking a 38-31 lead into halftime. While Loyola Maryland shot 43% from the field during the first half, compared to Boston College’s 40%, they struggled on the glass, lacking behind in rebounds 24-17, and had eight turnovers.

Milos Ilic was a standout for Loyola Maryland, recording a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, alongside four assists. Tyson Commander and Jordan Stiemke both contributed 12 points each, while Jacob Theodosiou added 11 points to the team’s efforts.

Boston College’s next challenge comes in the form of the Cayman Islands Classic, where they are set to face Old Dominion on Sunday. Following that match, BC is expected to take on either Missouri State or High Point in the second round, while other contenders in the opposite bracket include Hampton, Boise State, South Dakota State, and Duquesne.
