The New York Mets have successfully acquired center fielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for reliever Eric Orze, as confirmed on Tuesday.
Siri, who is 29 years old, had a challenging season, posting a batting average of .187 while hitting 18 home runs and driving in 47 runs for the Rays. This player originally joined Tampa Bay from the Houston Astros back in August 2022. Throughout his career, Siri has played in four seasons with both the Astros and the Rays, achieving an overall batting average of .210, a total of 54 home runs, and 136 runs batted in.
On the other hand, Eric Orze, a 27-year-old right-handed pitcher, was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 amateur draft. He marked his major league debut on July 8 against the Pittsburgh Pirates and made one additional appearance on July 26 in a game versus the Atlanta Braves. During his time with the Mets, Orze recorded an 0-1 record and struggled with a 21.60 ERA. However, he had a more favorable performance in Triple-A Syracuse, where he achieved a 6-1 record with a 2.92 ERA across 43 relief appearances.
