In a surprising turn of events, Borussia Dortmund’s standout player Serhou Guirassy will not be participating in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations after Tanzania managed to secure a 1-0 victory against Guinea on Tuesday, thereby eliminating the latter from contention.

The decisive moment of the match came in the 61st minute when Simon Msuva executed a superb diving header following a well-placed cross from Mudathir Yahya. This critical goal enabled Tanzania to clinch one of the three available qualification spots on the final day of the qualifying rounds.

Guinea, who needed only a draw in their last Group H match to ensure their progression, found themselves edged out. Msuva’s impressive strike propelled Tanzania to second place in the group, putting them a point ahead of Guinea and allowing them to secure the runner-up position, while the group was ultimately won by Congo.

On the same day, two additional qualification places were yet to be determined. Mauritania faced off against Cape Verde in Group C, hoping for helpful results from group leaders Egypt in their match against Botswana. If Botswana managed to avoid a loss against the Egyptian side, they would also qualify as runners-up. Meanwhile, Guinea-Bissau was set to meet Mozambique, as both teams vied for the final available spot.

The much-anticipated Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco, spanning from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, showcasing the top talent from the continent.
