AMELIA, Iowa — In a commanding performance on Monday night, Curtis Jones scored 20 points and Tamin Lipsey contributed 17, guiding No. 5 Iowa State to a decisive 87-52 victory over IU Indianapolis.

This marks Jones’ second consecutive 20-point outing off the bench and his fourth in just two seasons with the Cyclones, who now hold a record of 3-0.

Joshua Jefferson, a transfer from Saint Mary’s, made a notable debut by achieving his first double-double with Iowa State, racking up 16 points along with 10 rebounds. Keshon Gilbert also showcased his skills with 11 points and eight assists, while Lipsey stole the spotlight with five steals, providing a solid defensive presence.

For the Jaguars (2-3), Paul Zilinskas was the top scorer with 16 points, and Jarvis Walker added eight to the total.

In terms of performance, the Jaguars have struggled against Top 25 teams, with a dismal record of 0-17, and they are currently 0-2 this season against teams from power conferences, having previously fallen to Xavier 94-80 on November 8.

Iowa State, on the other hand, displayed impressive depth with four players scoring in double figures for the second time this season, having achieved the same feat against Mississippi Valley State earlier.

A pivotal moment in the game came when Jones hit three of his four 3-point shots during an explosive 13-0 run, which propelled the Cyclones to a commanding 27-5 lead just eight minutes into the contest.

Jefferson’s performance was particularly noteworthy, as he finished the game shooting a perfect 7 for 7 from the floor and a flawless 2 for 2 from the charity stripe in his 26 minutes of action.

Looking ahead, Iowa State is set to compete in the Maui Invitational and will face No. 4 Auburn next Monday. Meanwhile, IU Indianapolis will head to the Bulldog Bash in Huntsville, Alabama, where they are scheduled to meet Coastal Carolina on Friday.
