SALT LAKE CITY — Alex Ovechkin of the Capitals is on the verge of breaking multiple records as he continues his remarkable scoring journey.
On Monday night, Ovechkin netted a goal against Utah’s goaltender Connor Ingram, marking a significant milestone in his career by becoming the 178th different goalie he has found the back of the net against.
This accomplishment ties him with Jaromir Jagr for the all-time record of most goalies scored against in NHL history.
Just a night prior, Ovechkin set another milestone by equaling Patrick Marleau’s record for the second-most goals scored in league history, by scoring against former teammate Ilya Samsonov.
With his latest goal, Ovechkin only needs 28 more to exceed Wayne Gretzky’s legendary NHL career-goals record.
At 39 years old, the Russian forward has already compiled 14 goals across 18 games this season, bringing his impressive total to 867 career goals as he plays in his 20th NHL season.
Ovechkin’s goal in the first period was instrumental in giving the Capitals a solid 3-1 lead heading into the second period of the match.
His remarkable prowess on the ice continues to cement his legacy as one of the greatest scorers in the history of hockey.
