A tragic incident unfolded in Lawson, Missouri, where a man and a child were discovered deceased within a residence following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the events transpired after officers responded to a report of domestic violence on a Sunday night.
The officers from Lawson and a deputy from Ray County were called to the scene, located in a community of roughly 2,500 inhabitants, situated about 40 miles northeast of Kansas City. Reports indicated that a male subject had assaulted a woman and that a child was also present at the location, prompting the urgent police response.
Upon the officers’ arrival, gunfire erupted as the man inside the home fired at the deputies, injuring one of them. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the deputy are not deemed life-threatening, and the officer was promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment. In retaliation to the shots fired, the police returned fire, prompting nearby officers, including a specialized tactical unit from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, to assist at the scene.
After a series of gunshots were heard emanating from inside the house, the tactical team proceeded to enter the premises. Sadly, when they accessed the interior, they discovered both the man and the child deceased. However, it was confirmed that the woman who had been attacked beforehand was unharmed and safe.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is now spearheading the investigation concerning both the fatalities and the police-involved shooting, aiming to unravel the details surrounding this unfortunate situation.
