NEW ORLEANS — Authorities are looking into two separate shooting incidents that resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left nine others injured on a parade route this past Sunday. The New Orleans police stated that the events unfolded during a time of celebration in the area.
Following reports of gunfire that began shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the St. Roch neighborhood, officers discovered eight individuals who had sustained gunshot injuries. According to information released by the police department, these victims were quickly transported to local hospitals, although their current conditions remain unknown.
Approximately 45 minutes later, another gunfire report came in from the same street, located half a mile to the north of the initial location. In this second incident, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while another succumbed to their injuries at a hospital. Additionally, a third individual was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle and is reported to be in stable condition, according to police updates.
The shootings transpired in the vicinity of a “second line,” which is a traditional event that follows a parade and is typically filled with celebration. Despite the severity of the incidents, law enforcement officials have yet to announce any arrests related to the shootings.
As the investigation continues, the community is coming to terms with the violence that marred what was meant to be a joyful occasion. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in resolving this troubling case.
