MONROE, La. — In a convincing display, Sarah Ashlee Barker contributed 25 points to lead the unbeaten No. 22 Alabama women’s basketball team to a 75-52 victory over UL-Monroe during a nonconference matchup on Sunday.
The win improved Alabama’s season record to 6-0, marking their second triumph away from home. Conversely, the Warhawks, who previously enjoyed a 3-1 record, experienced their first defeat in three home encounters.
Barker made an early impact by sinking a 3-pointer and was instrumental in Alabama’s 23-point first quarter, scoring nine of those points. By halftime, she had accounted for 19 of the team’s 46 points.
The Crimson Tide demonstrated solid shooting efforts, particularly from Barker, who finished the game hitting 10 of her 14 attempts. Overall, Alabama went 29 of 65 from the field, though they faced challenges beyond the arc, making only 4 of 26 three-point attempts, and converting 13 out of 22 free throws. Zaay Green supported the effort with 13 points, while Aaliyah Nye contributed by snagging three steals.
On the other side, UL Monroe struggled significantly in their shooting performance, achieving just 18 out of 58 attempts, which amounts to a mere 31% success rate. Meloney Thames, who had been averaging 18.3 points per game, faced a tough outing with 0 for 14 from the field, including none of her six three-point attempts, and only managed to score four points. Katlyn Manuel was the standout for the Warhawks, leading the team with 16 points and securing seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Sakyia White added 12 points and five boards to the team’s efforts.
Despite the defeat, UL Monroe aimed to regroup and improve as they look forward to their upcoming fixtures.
