NBA confirms Tatum’s travel prior to his game-winning shot, securing Boston’s victory over Toronto.

NEW YORK — In an exhilarating matchup on Saturday night, Jayson Tatum made the decisive 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer, securing a 126-123 triumph for the Boston Celtics over the Toronto Raptors. However, the NBA later indicated that Tatum had traveled just seconds before his game-winning shot.

According to the league’s Last Two Minute Report released on Sunday, Tatum moved his pivot foot with 3.4 seconds remaining in overtime, which should have resulted in a traveling call. The NBA routinely issues these reports to shed light on officiating decisions during critical moments of games, specifically those that are decided by three points or less in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter or during overtime.

The report identified another significant missed call on that final play. It stated that a foul should have been assessed on Toronto’s Davion Mitchell, who collided with Boston’s Jaylen Brown with seven seconds left on the clock. Had a foul been called, Brown would have had the opportunity to shoot free throws while the score was tied at 123-123.

Following the collision, Brown was knocked backward, and play progressed with Tatum already positioned with the ball on the right wing. Tatum shuffle-stepped, which was the action that went uncalled for traveling, before he stepped back to launch a shot over Toronto’s Ochai Agbaji. The clock ran out as Tatum’s shot sailed toward the hoop, clinching the victory for the Celtics.
