NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In the third quarter of the game against the Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans linebacker Jack Gibbens sustained a right ankle injury. He was quickly transported off the field on a cart, with his leg secured in an air cast.
Gibbens’ injury occurred during a run play involving Vikings running back Aaron Jones. As the play unfolded, Titans cornerback Roger McCreary managed to strip the ball from Jones, who later recovered his own fumble. Initially, it appeared that two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons might have been injured, but it was Gibbens who required immediate attention.
Medical personnel rushed to assist Gibbens, and a trainer used a handsaw to remove part of the equipment on his leg before fitting him with an air cast. Teammates gathered around him to offer support as he was wheeled off the field.
Gibbens joined the Titans as an undrafted free agent rookie last year after playing at the University of Minnesota and had started his fifth game for the Titans this season. In the previous week’s matchup against the Chargers, he recorded a career-high 15 tackles, and his combined total reached 29 in the last two games prior.
This season, Gibbens was tied with Troy Andersen of Atlanta and Nick Cross of Indianapolis for the most tackles over a two-game span, with Andersen and Cross achieving their milestones during September.
