PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — In a remarkable display of skill, German athlete Christopher Grotheer, an Olympic and world champion, secured victory in the men’s skeleton event of the World Cup on Sunday. He was followed closely by his British teammates, Marcus Wyatt and Matt Weston, who finished in second and third place respectively. This outcome mirrored the results from the previous day’s season-opening competition on the 2018 Olympic track, marking Grotheer’s eighth career World Cup win.

In the women’s skeleton event, British competitor Freya Tarbit celebrated her first-ever World Cup victory, which also marked her maiden medal after participating in ten races. Tarbit’s win, combined with her impressive fourth place in Saturday’s race, propelled her to the lead in the overall World Cup standings following the first two events of the season.

The podium for the women’s race also featured Olympic champion Hannah Niese from Germany, who took second place, and Austria’s Janine Flock clinched third.

Meanwhile, American competitors struggled to break into the top ten, with Austin Florian finishing tied for 11th in the men’s event, and Sara Roderick placing 12th in the women’s analysis.

The skeleton World Cup series will proceed next weekend, taking place on the 2022 Olympic track located in Yanqing, China. Bobsledding events, typically paired with skeleton competitions, will commence on the weekend of December 7-8 in Altenberg, Germany. The bobsled and skeleton seasons will culminate in March at the world championships held in Lake Placid, New York.

Additionally, the World Cup luge season is set to kick off on November 30 in Lillehammer, Norway, promising an exciting few months for winter sports enthusiasts.
