TEL AVIV, Israel — Israeli law enforcement announced on Sunday the apprehension of three individuals in connection with an alarming incident involving flares directed at the private home of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the coastal town of Caesarea.
Authorities reported that both the prime minister and his family were not present at the location when two flares were discharged overnight, fortunately resulting in no injuries.
Details regarding the arrested suspects were not extensively disclosed by the police; however, officials indicated that the suspects may have ties to domestic political dissenters opposing Netanyahu. The incident elicited a strong condemnation from Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who cautioned against the “escalation of the violence in the public sphere.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu has endured months of significant public protests in response to his management of the hostage crisis that erupted following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. This tumultuous event has stoked the flames of an ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Critics have attributed the security and intelligence failures that facilitated the Hamas attack to Netanyahu, highlighting a perceived lack of action to negotiate a resolution for the release of numerous hostages currently held in Gaza.
In a previous incident, a drone deployed by the Hezbollah militant group based in Lebanon targeted Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea last month, again while he and his family were not on the premises.
