MOSCOW, Idaho — In a thrilling matchup on Saturday night, Jack Layne showcased his talent by throwing three touchdown passes to Mark Hamper, while Cameron Pope contributed significantly with field goals of 50, 48, and 36 yards. The Idaho Vandals secured a 31-24 victory over Weber State.

Layne completed 18 of his 27 passes for a total of 283 yards, although he did throw one interception. Hamper proved to be a standout receiver, amassing 187 yards on eight receptions. With this win, the Vandals now hold an 8-3 record, including 5-2 in the Big Sky Conference, and have achieved a remarkable four-game winning streak—their past six games featuring five victories. This season, Idaho’s only losses came against Oregon (currently ranked No. 1 in the AP Top 25), FCS No. 4 UC Davis, and FCS No. 2 Montana State.

As the game progressed, Kyle Thompson booted a 31-yard field goal, concluding a methodical 12-play, 65-yard drive that brought Weber State closer at 23-17 with just 3:42 remaining. Shortly after, on a crucial third-and-4 situation, Layne quickly threw a short pass to Hamper, who skillfully maneuvered past defenders to score a remarkable 74-yard touchdown. Following this, Layne connected with Emmerson Cortez-Menjivar for a successful 2-point conversion, extending Idaho’s lead to 14 points with only 1:45 left on the game clock.

Weber State did not go down without a fight, as Richie Munoz connected with Jacob Sharp for a 57-yard score, narrowing the gap in the final moments to 31-24. However, Idaho was able to recover the subsequent onside kick, cementing their victory. This loss marked the fifth consecutive defeat for the Wildcats.
