Tatum sinks buzzer-beater 3-pointer in overtime, leading Celtics to 126-123 win against Raptors

BOSTON — Jayson Tatum sank a buzzer-beater from beyond the arc in overtime, helping the Boston Celtics secure a dramatic 126-123 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Saturday night.

Tatum concluded the game with 24 points along with 11 rebounds, while Jaylen Brown led the scoring with 27 points. Al Horford and Derrick White each contributed 18 points to the team’s success.

The Raptors remain winless on the road this season after suffering their seventh consecutive defeat. Despite Jakob Poeltl’s impressive performance, scoring a career-high 35 points with an efficient shooting display (16 of 19) and securing 12 rebounds, Toronto could not pull off the victory. RJ Barrett also had a strong game, finishing with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

In the closing moments of regulation, the score was locked at 112 when Barrett made a contested shot and was fouled by Brown with only 59 seconds remaining. However, Barrett’s free throw attempt missed.

Boston’s Neemias Queta, who filled in for Jrue Holiday (suffering from left knee tendinopathy), responded by driving to the basket for a layup during Boston’s next offense.

**Injury Notes:**

The Raptors came into the matchup without Scottie Barnes, who is dealing with an orbital fracture, and Bruce Brown, suffering from a right knee issue. They narrowly avoided a serious injury scare when Bruno Fernando was helped off the court after awkwardly landing on a teammate’s foot while securing a rebound during the second quarter, but he ultimately was able to return to the game.

**Team Performance:**

The Celtics improved their record to 11-3 for the season, successfully bouncing back from losses at their home arena, TD Garden.

**Decisive Play:**

A pivotal moment occurred when the game was tied at 123. Toronto successfully challenged an out-of-bounds ruling that had initially favored Boston. However, Barrett’s attempt to take the lead with a layup was thwarted by Queta, allowing the Celtics to regain possession with just over 20 seconds left on the clock.

**Noteworthy Statistics:**

The Raptors dominated the paint, outscoring the Celtics 76-42 in that aspect of the game. This was particularly telling, especially after Boston had given up 68 points in the paint during their recent loss to Atlanta for the NBA Cup.

**Looking Ahead:**

The Toronto Raptors are set to welcome the Indiana Pacers for their next game on Monday, while the Celtics will continue their NBA Cup journey on Tuesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
