BOSTON – This year, the Pan-Mass Challenge has successfully generated an impressive $75 million dedicated to cancer research and treatment, achieving a significant milestone by surpassing the $1 billion total raised since its inception in 1980.

“This year’s PMC donation highlights an extraordinary milestone in its 45-year journey,” stated Billy Starr, the founder and executive director of the PMC. “We have proven how impactful cycling and fundraising can be when combined, yet our mission is far from complete. We are now aiming for the next billion, as we continue to pedal ‘Closer by the Mile’ toward a future free of cancer.”

A staggering 6,800 participants, supported by 3,500 volunteers, embarked on cycling journeys of up to 211 miles throughout Massachusetts this past August. This event stands out as the largest athletic fundraising effort globally. Notably, the PMC is the primary financial supporter of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, contributing significantly to research initiatives and the creation of new facilities.
