BEAUMONT, Texas — In a decisive matchup on Saturday, Robert Coleman showcased his talent by throwing two touchdown passes, leading Lamar University to a 24-7 victory over Nicholls State. Kyndon Fuselier made a significant impact by returning a punt for a 40-yard touchdown, contributing to Lamar’s strong performance.

For Lamar (6-5, 3-3 in the Southland Conference), Khalan Griffin was a notable player, rushing for 86 yards on 21 attempts. Fuselier was also a key offensive asset, making three receptions that totaled 84 yards. Coleman, who completed 12 of his 21 passes for a total of 151 yards, faced some challenges with two interceptions during the game.

The match began with an exciting play by Fuselier, who caught a punt at the 40-yard line. He skillfully maneuvered around a defender before darting to the right and evading another would-be tackle at the 30-yard line, reaching the end zone to score the first points of the game, putting the Cardinals up 6-0 with 9:21 remaining in the first quarter. Shortly after, Ben Woodard extended the lead for Lamar with a successful 42-yard field goal, bringing the score to 10-0 with about six minutes left in the second quarter.

Nicholls responded before halftime when Pat McQuaide connected with Jackson Dufrene for a 19-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to 10-7. However, the second half saw a resurgence from Lamar. Coleman tossed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Griffin, further extending the lead in the third quarter. To conclude the scoring, Coleman found Devyn Gibbs in the end zone again with a 13-yard touchdown pass, bringing the final score to 24-7 with 6:28 left on the clock.
