The Chicago Blackhawks have officially placed defenseman Seth Jones on injured reserve as of Saturday due to a right foot injury.
Jones, who is 30 years old, had participated in all of the team’s first 17 games this season, averaging over 25 minutes and 30 seconds of ice time per game.
His contributions include two goals and eight assists to date.
Head coach Luke Richardson expressed the significance of Jones’ role, stating, “That’s a lot of minutes to eat up. He’s crucial in a lot of areas on our team.”
He also highlighted that this situation has been recurring since he joined the team and suggested that it presents a valuable opportunity for other players to step up and take on more responsibilities, particularly in crucial game moments.
In a corresponding move, the Blackhawks have recalled defenseman Louis Crevier from their minor league affiliate ahead of their Saturday night showdown in Vancouver.
Standing at 6 feet 8 inches, Crevier was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft and made his NHL debut last season.
Throughout his time with the Blackhawks, he has yet to score but has registered three assists in 24 games.
With Jones sidelined, Chicago will need to adjust their defense strategy while giving Crevier a chance to prove his capabilities at the NHL level.
