NORMAN, Okla. — In a commanding performance, Oklahoma triumphed over Stetson with a final score of 85-64 on Saturday. Kobe Elvis was a standout for the Sooners, scoring 24 points, while Jalon Moore contributed a solid 21 points.
The Hatters made a spirited effort, narrowing the gap with an 8-0 run initiated by Jordan Wood and Abramo Canka, pulling the score to 51-43 with 14 minutes remaining. However, Oklahoma quickly regained dominance as Moore led a 16-0 run, scoring 11 points and extending the lead to 70-46 with just over seven minutes on the clock.
Alongside Elvis and Moore, Jeremiah Fears scored 11 points for Oklahoma, and Sam Godwin was a key player on the boards, securing 10 rebounds. For Stetson, Canka emerged as the top scorer with 22 points, showcasing excellent shooting with four successful three-pointers out of five attempts. Wood added 11 points to his team’s total but had a challenging outing from beyond the arc, making just one of his seven attempts.
Oklahoma struggled in the early stages, trailing or tied for the first nine and a half minutes of the game. They finally took the lead at 20-19, thanks to a layup by Godwin, and then surged ahead by outscoring the Hatters 24-9 in the remainder of the first half. Elvis was instrumental during this period, scoring 19 points on an impressive 8-of-9 shooting, including three three-pointers.
The game also highlighted the defensive struggles for Stetson, as they committed 23 turnovers compared to Oklahoma’s 11, which severely impacted their chances of mounting a comeback.
