NEWARK, Del. — In a strong showing during its final home game as an FCS program, Delaware triumphed over Campbell with a score of 41-22 on Saturday, highlighted by Nick Minicucci’s exceptional performance. Minicucci not only threw four touchdown passes but also rushed for two touchdowns, solidifying his role in the team’s victory.
Having been a part of the Football Championship Subdivision since 1980, the Blue Hens have made 19 playoff appearances. With a record of 9-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play this season, the team is set to move up to the FBS and join Conference USA in 2025.
Minicucci initiated the scoring with a six-yard touchdown run on a seven-play, 68-yard drive during the first quarter, putting Delaware ahead 6-0, although Nate Reed’s extra point attempt was blocked. He later connected with Phil Lutz for a 33-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 12-0 after a failed two-point conversion attempt.
Early in the second quarter, Minicucci and Lutz teamed up again for an eight-yard touchdown pass, followed by a successful two-point conversion to Max Patterson, making the score 20-6. Minicucci then added a three-yard rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 27-13 at halftime.
In the fourth quarter, he threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jake Thaw and a 38-yard scoring pass to JoJo Bermudez, rounding off the scoring for the Blue Hens. Overall, Minicucci finished the game completing 16 of 26 passes for 230 yards, with one interception, and added 78 rushing yards on 11 attempts. Marcus Yarns also had an impressive game, running for 134 yards on 17 carries while Lutz contributed with four receptions totaling 75 yards.
On the other side, Campbell’s Mike Chandler completed 16 of 31 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted twice. VJ Wilkins made a mark for Campbell with five catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Camels struggled on the ground, managing only 54 yards on 27 carries.
With this victory, Delaware completed an undefeated run at Delaware Stadium this season, marking the 14th time the program has achieved a perfect home record since the stadium’s opening in 1953.
