NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — In an exciting matchup on Saturday, Jalen Madison showcased his skills by rushing for 170 yards and scoring a touchdown, helping Sacred Heart overcome Merrimack by a score of 31-20.
Quarterback John Michalski also contributed significantly, adding two rushing touchdowns to the game. Michalski’s 37-yard touchdown run pulled the Pioneers within striking distance, closing the first half at 17-14. He later completed a drive that spanned 75 yards, scoring on a 3-yard run to put Sacred Heart ahead 21-10 late in the third quarter.
The Pioneers extended their lead further in the fourth quarter, thanks to a defensive pick-six by Quinn Hart and a field goal from Matt Kling. The game started with a bang when Merrimack’s Jermaine Corbett returned the kickoff for 99 yards, but Sacred Heart quickly answered back.
Madison’s electrifying 73-yard touchdown came on Sacred Heart’s very first play from scrimmage, leveling the score after Corbett’s impressive return. Corbett had a standout performance for Merrimack, rushing for 163 yards on 22 carries, including an 18-yard touchdown to keep his team competitive.
In terms of overall statistics, Sacred Heart managed a total of 283 rushing yards compared to Merrimack’s 256. However, both teams combined for a modest 168 passing yards, with each quarterback throwing two interceptions during the game.
This match marked the season finale for Sacred Heart, while Merrimack is set to conclude its season next Saturday against Fordham.
