POTTSTOWN, Pa. — Authorities have filed attempted murder charges against a man allegedly involved in a serious incident that left a police officer injured in Pottstown, a suburb of Philadelphia. Prosecutors assert that the man attempted to grab the officer’s weapon from its holster during a confrontation, resulting in the weapon discharging and wounding the officer.
The incident unfolded shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Friday when law enforcement was called to the scene of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers discovered a heated argument between a man and a woman inside their residence. As the officers attempted to mediate the situation, 42-year-old William Ciccoli Jr. reportedly became increasingly agitated, leading him to try to seize one of the officers’ guns.
During the subsequent struggle for the weapon, it went off, and the officer sustained a gunshot wound to the right hip. Fortunately, the injuries were classified as non-life-threatening, and the officer was promptly transported to Reading Hospital for medical care.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, Ciccoli faces multiple serious allegations, including aggravated assault, disarming a police officer, strangulation, simple assault, and reckless endangering. Although court records do not indicate whether Ciccoli has retained legal representation, attempts to reach him via a listed contact number have been unsuccessful.
