DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Heading into the final round of the season-ending World Tour Championship, Rory McIlroy found himself in a tie for the lead with Rasmus Hojgaard and Antoine Rozner. The Northern Irish golfer was aiming for his sixth Race to Dubai title as the tournament progressed on Saturday.

McIlroy had the chance to take the lead outright but saw his birdie attempt at the last hole bounce off the rim of the cup. He finished the day with a score of 4-under 68, bringing his total to 12-under par for the tournament, matching the score of Hojgaard, who carded a 66.

Rozner, who began the third round with a one-stroke advantage, tied things up at the top after making an eagle from 8 feet at the 18th hole, earning a score of 69 for the day.

Trailing just behind them were Jesper Svensson with a score of 68 and Joaquin Niemann who finished with a 69, both sitting two strokes off the leaders. Tyrrell Hatton was further back, recording a 71 in a round that was marked by frustration, including him breaking a club during play.

McIlroy is on the brink of securing another Race to Dubai title, which recognizes the player with the most points accumulated over the European tour season. If he succeeds, it will be his sixth, placing him alongside the late Seve Ballesteros and just two titles shy of Colin Montgomerie’s record.

Ranked No. 3 in the world, McIlroy’s objectives extend beyond just the Race to Dubai title, as he aims to walk off the 18th green holding two trophies with a fourth tournament victory worldwide this season.

Hojgaard, who started strong with six birdies in his first eight holes and played steady for the remainder of his round, is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his twin brother, Nicolai Hojgaard, who captured the season-ending event in Dubai the previous year.

Both Hojgaard and Rozner, currently ranked No. 154, are also in pursuit of securing one of the 10 coveted PGA Tour cards available for the upcoming season through their performance on the European tour.
