DALLAS — A Southwest Airlines flight was canceled after a bullet struck the exterior of the aircraft while it was getting ready to leave from a Dallas airport. The incident occurred on Friday evening, and thankfully, no passengers or crew members were injured. Law enforcement agencies were notified following the occurrence of the gunfire, which impacted the right side of the plane just below the cockpit area.

The Boeing 737-800, designated as Flight 2494 and bound for Indianapolis International Airport, was taxiing around 8:30 p.m. when it was hit. In response to the incident, the crew decided to return the plane to the gate, allowing all passengers to disembark safely, according to statements made by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Southwest Airlines confirmed that the plane was taken out of service due to the damage caused by the bullet. The airline assured passengers that they would arrange an alternative flight for them. Additionally, the management at Dallas Love Field Airport shared via social media that the Dallas Police Department had promptly responded to the situation, leading to a temporary closure of runway 13R/31L. However, the runway was reopened later that night, with the airport reporting minimal disruption to its ongoing operations.
