FLORENCE, Ala. — In an intense match on Friday night, Jaden Brownell scored 24 points, leading Samford to a narrow 97-96 victory over North Alabama in overtime.
Brownell’s performance was complemented by eight rebounds and three steals, contributing significantly to the Bulldogs’ (3-1) effort. The decisive moment of the game came when Julian Brown hit a crucial three-pointer midway through the overtime period, giving Samford a lead they would not relinquish. Trey Fort also played a key role, adding 18 points to the scoreboard while making 6 of his 15 shots, which included 3 successful attempts from beyond the arc. He also secured seven rebounds in the process. Julian Brown rounded off the scoring with 15 points, shooting 5 for 9 overall and going perfect from the free-throw line on three tries.
For North Alabama, which holds a record of 3-1, Jacari Lane stood out with an impressive 32-point performance, also contributing six assists and five steals. Corneilous Williams had a notable game as well, finishing with 17 points and gathering 16 rebounds, along with three steals and two blocks. Taye Fields added another 13 points and dished out five assists, but it was not enough to secure a win.
The game reached a dramatic climax when Donte Bacchus of North Alabama made a layup just seconds before the end of regulation, tying the contest at 88 and forcing overtime.
