SPARTANBURG, S.C. — In an exciting matchup on Friday night, UNC Wilmington emerged victorious against South Carolina Upstate, claiming an 89-85 win. Donovan Newby was a standout player for the Seahawks, contributing 20 points along with five rebounds. This impressive performance helped UNC Wilmington maintain their unbeaten record, now standing at 3-0 for the season.
In addition to Newby’s efforts, Khamari McGriff made his mark by scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds. Elijah Jamison also joined in on the scoring spree, successfully shooting 4 of 6 from the field and hitting 5 of 8 attempts from the free-throw line, which brought his total to 13 points for the game.
The Spartans of South Carolina Upstate, who now hold a 1-4 record, were led by Brit Harris, who matched Newby with 20 points and also secured eight rebounds. Karmani Gregory was another key contributor for the Spartans, netting 17 points, while also dishing out five assists and making two steals. Mister Dean rounded out their offensive efforts with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
