ANN ARBOR, Mich. — On Friday night, Michigan secured a 76-64 victory over TCU, fueled by a strong performance from Nimari Burnett, who contributed 16 points. Danny Wolf also made a significant impact, recording a double-double with 14 points alongside 14 rebounds and four assists.
Wolf helped Michigan establish a 53-43 advantage with 12 minutes left in the game. However, the Wolverines struggled offensively in the following minutes, managing only two field goals over a six-minute span, which allowed TCU to close the gap to 63-60 with just over six minutes to play.
The Horned Frogs faced difficulties finding the basket, not scoring again until Trazarien White made a fast-break layup at the 2:19 mark, reducing Michigan’s lead to 72-64. Michigan then secured two critical offensive rebounds on their next possession, culminating in a layup from Vladislav Goldin that restored a ten-point cushion for the Wolverines.
Tre Donaldson, a transfer from Auburn, also added 14 points for Michigan, while Sam Walters chipped in with ten points. For TCU, White led the scoring with 16 points, and Brendan Wenzel contributed 15. Frankie Collins, who once played for Michigan in the 2021-22 season, returned to Ann Arbor and managed to score seven points.
The first half ended with Michigan ahead 34-31, despite the Wolverines committing more turnovers (16) than they managed field goals (12). Donaldson attempted a half-court shot as the first half concluded, but it was ruled as too late and did not count. Overall, Michigan ended the game with a total of 21 turnovers.
Historically, this matchup marks the second time these teams have faced off, with the previous encounter occurring in 1962, which Michigan won decisively with a score of 82-60.
Looking forward, Michigan is set to continue their three-game homestand against Miami (Ohio) on Monday. They will also face Tarleton State on Thursday, and then Virginia Tech on November 25 as part of the Fort Myers Tip-Off.
In response, TCU will host Alcorn State on Tuesday, following their earliest true road game since November 10, 1998, when they played at Providence.
