CARDIFF, Wales — Joseph Sua’ali’i will be one of the standout players on the bench for Australia’s upcoming test match against Wales, set to take place this Sunday. This selection comes just a week after the young athlete made an impressive entry into senior rugby, contributing to the Wallabies’ victory over England.
Sua’ali’i, who made a recent transition from rugby league, has been moved to the bench to make room for the return of veteran Samu Kerevi, who will be playing at inside center. This match holds special significance for Kerevi, as it marks his 50th test appearance for Australia and his first match since the Rugby World Cup held last year.
In addition, Seru Uru is set to earn his first starting position, participating in only his second test match, as he steps in for the injured Harry Wilson, who is currently undergoing concussion evaluations. To accommodate Uru’s position at flanker, Rob Valetini will shift to No. 8 for this match, also celebrating his own milestone of 50 test matches.
Will Skelton, who plays professionally in France with La Rochelle, has been called up for his first test of 2024. In a few changes to the lineup, scrumhalf Nic White and winger Max Jorgensen will replace Jake Gordon and the injured Dylan Pietsch, respectively.
Allan Alaalatoa will take on the captaincy role, stepping in for Angus Bell, who led the team during their recent 42-37 triumph at Twickenham.
“Last week’s test was characterized by its fast pace and physicality, and we’ve made some adjustments to inject fresh talent into the lineup for what promises to be another tough battle in Cardiff,” commented Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt.
Wales has been struggling, facing a streak of ten consecutive losses, which ties for their worst record in history. This losing trend includes two previous defeats against the Wallabies during their tour of Australia in July.
