NEW YORK — Following comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s hosting role at last year’s Academy Awards, the Oscars will now welcome another beloved comedian, Conan O’Brien, to take the helm for the upcoming ceremony.
In a lighthearted announcement on Friday, O’Brien stated, “America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.” This marks O’Brien’s inaugural appearance as the Oscar host, although he has a wealth of experience emceeing other prestigious award shows, including the Emmy Awards in both 2002 and 2006, along with the White House Correspondents’ dinners held in 1995 and 2013.
The prestigious film awards ceremony is set to broadcast live on March 2, 2025, via ABC. O’Brien is renowned for his long-standing career in late-night television, having hosted shows such as “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien,” and “Conan.” Prior to his rise as a television personality, O’Brien sharpened his comedic talents as a writer for iconic shows like “Saturday Night Live” and “The Simpsons.”
Joining the ranks of notable Oscar hosts from the past, O’Brien’s predecessors include comedy legends like Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, David Letterman, Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart, Hugh Jackman, and Neil Patrick Harris. Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, expressed enthusiasm about O’Brien’s selection, stating, “He joins an iconic roster of comedy greats who have served in this role, and we are so lucky to have him center stage for the Oscars.”
