CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — In an impressive display of dominance, Jasmine Brown-Hagger achieved a personal best by scoring 23 points on an efficient 10-of-15 shooting, while Kendall Bostic recorded a double-double as the No. 23 Illinois team secured an 84-37 victory against Eastern Illinois on Thursday evening.
The Illini (3-0) showcased their offensive prowess by shooting 55% from the floor and hitting 9 of 19 from beyond the arc, although they struggled a bit in the fourth quarter, connecting on just 1 of 5 attempts. The Panthers (0-2) had a tough night shooting, managing to make only 2 of 25 three-point attempts, which translates to a mere 8%. Overall, they found the basket just 24% of the time and were significantly outperformed on the boards, losing the rebounding battle 44-27.
Bostic contributed significantly to the team’s success with 11 points and 12 rebounds, marking her 35th career double-double. Meanwhile, Gretchen Dolan scored 13 points, and Adalia McKenzie added 11, remaining perfect from the field as she went 5-for-5. Brynn Shoup-Hill was also a notable contributor, tallying nine points and securing nine rebounds.
On the Eastern Illinois side, Jayda Johnston led her team with eight points, while Kiyley Flowers made her mark defensively with seven steals.
The Illini quickly established control over the game, scoring the first six points and capturing a 12-2 lead halfway through the first quarter, which concluded at 19-7. As the second quarter began, Brown-Hagger hit a 3-pointer and followed it with a layup, with Dolan also nailing a three and McKenzie scoring another layup, extending the lead to 29-7 in just 40 seconds. By halftime, Illinois had built a commanding 41-15 advantage, shooting 58% as opposed to Eastern Illinois’s 23%.
