DAMASCUS, Syria — According to Syria’s state news outlet, Israel launched two airstrikes in a western area of Damascus, as well as in a nearby suburb, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 individuals.
One of these strikes hit a facility belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group. Additionally, 16 others sustained injuries during the attacks, as reported by the state news agency SANA, which cited an unnamed military official.
The assaults targeted the Mazzeh neighborhood in Damascus and the adjacent suburb of Qudsaya, both of which received strikes on specific buildings. An eyewitness journalist present in Mazzeh described observing a five-story structure that was severely impacted by missile fire, particularly in the basement area.
A spokesperson from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Group confirmed that the airstrike in Mazzeh specifically targeted one of their offices, where several of their members lost their lives. This individual chose to remain anonymous as they were not permitted to discuss the situation with the press.
SANA further reported that Syria’s air defense systems were engaged against a “hostile target” located to the south of Homs, although no additional information was provided.
Israel has been responsible for numerous air operations in Syria, with a focus on displacing members of Hezbollah from Lebanon and individuals connected to Iranian-affiliated groups.
