The celebration of the 2024 Latin Grammy Awards is underway once again in Miami, marking a significant milestone as it commemorates its 25th anniversary. This year is particularly notable, as Latin music experiences unprecedented global popularity. Here’s what to look forward to during this star-studded event.

Leading the nominations this year is Édgar Barrera, a renowned producer and songwriter who has collaborated with a plethora of high-profile artists including Madonna, Karol G, Peso Pluma, Shakira, and Grupo Frontera. Barrera is up for a remarkable nine awards this year, following a previous year where he garnered 13 nominations and took home three Grammys.

Barrera’s nominations include accolades for producer, songwriter, record, and album of the year. He also has dual nominations in the best Regional Mexican song category, alongside three nominations in the song of the year category. His work shines through on tracks like “Entre Paréntesis” with Shakira and Grupo Frontera, “Mi Ex Tenía Razón” by Karol G, and “Según Quién” featuring Maluma and Carin León.

Trailing Barrera in the nomination count are prominent figures in the Latin music industry, including Karol G and Bad Bunny, who each have secured eight nominations. Following closely is Colombian songwriter Keityn with six nominations to his name.

The ceremony is set to begin at 8 p.m. Eastern at the Kaseya Center in Miami. Music enthusiasts are in for a treat as performers at this year’s gala include Barrera himself, along with Residente, Myke Towers, DJ Khaled, Jon Bon Jovi, Joe Jonas, Anitta, Becky G, Eladio Carrión, Grupo Frontera, Kali Uchis, Pitbull, Luis Fonsi, and Juan Luis Guerra, among many others.

Carlos Vives, who has been honored as the 2024 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, is also scheduled to take the stage with a live performance. Previous figures to receive this accolade include renowned talents such as Juanes, Laura Pausini, Marco Antonio Solís, and Rubén Blades.

In addition to the exciting nominations and performances, this year introduces two new award categories: best Latin electronic music performance, which falls under the newly established electronic music field, and best contemporary Mexican music album. The three-hour ceremony will be broadcast live across multiple platforms, including Univision, UniMás, Galavisión, and ViX, ensuring fans can join in the celebration of Latin music’s vibrant and diverse talents.
