OXFORD, Ohio — Keyon Mozee achieved a personal best with 196 rushing yards, while Brett Gabbert connected on two touchdown passes as Miami of Ohio secured a dominating 34-7 victory over the winless Kent State on Wednesday evening.
Gabbert faced some difficulties in the first half, completing just 40% of his passes with an 8-for-20 record, but had an impressive average of 23 yards for each completion. He accumulated a total of 187 yards, including touchdown throws of 69 yards to Reggie Vigil and 34 yards to Javon Tracy. With a 17-7 lead at halftime, the RedHawks increased their lead with two additional touchdowns in the third quarter. Mozee’s 74-yard spectacular run marked the highlight, pushing the score to 31-7 and effectively securing the game.
The RedHawks, improving their record to 6-4 overall and 5-1 within the Mid-American Conference, moved into a tie for first place alongside Bowling Green, who triumphed over Western Michigan with a score of 31-13 on Tuesday, as well as Ohio, who defeated Eastern Michigan 35-10.
Gabbert completed a total of 10 passes out of 22 attempts, amassing 202 yards. The Miami offense surged with a total of 275 rushing yards, contributing to their overall tally of 477 yards for the game.
For the Golden Flashes, Tommy Ulatowski completed 10 out of 21 passes for 82 yards, adding a touchdown to the mix. Kent State struggled offensively, managing only 178 total yards throughout the game.
