LINCOLN, Neb. — In a dominant performance, Juwan Gary led the Nebraska Cornhuskers with 19 points as they secured an 86-60 victory against Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday evening. This win marked the Cornhuskers’ 15th consecutive triumph at home, showcasing their strong play at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Berke Buyuktuncel contributed with 12 points, while Brice Williams added 10 to the scoring efforts for Nebraska (3-0). The team demonstrated impressive depth, with 12 players contributing to the score and 11 recording rebounds throughout the game.
For the Knights (1-3), Terrence Brown shone with 23 points and eight rebounds, but the team struggled to keep pace. They had previously suffered a heavy defeat, losing by 26 points to No. 16 Creighton just days earlier. Ahmed Barba-Bey, Jo’el Emanuel, and Dylan Jones each chipped in with 10 points as well.
The game saw Fairleigh Dickinson narrowing the gap to 58-49 midway through the second half, thanks to a three-pointer by Barba-Bey. However, Williams responded assertively, scoring five points to trigger an 11-2 run, extending Nebraska’s lead to 20 points with just over five minutes left on the clock.
Nebraska exhibited dominance in key areas, leading 43-31 in rebounds and forcing 17 turnovers, which translated into a significant 40 points in the paint. The Cornhuskers also thrived off mistakes, scoring 28 points from turnovers and 21 in fast-break situations. From the foul line, they were efficient, converting 23 of 28 attempts, compared to Fairleigh Dickinson’s 7 of 11.
The Knights initially took a brief lead of 7-6 following a dunk from Brown. However, Gary’s jumper and a subsequent three-point play by Andrew Morgan sparked a 10-0 run, propelling Nebraska ahead at 21-10 midway through the first half. A strong finish to the first half, fueled by an 8-0 run with Rollie Worster contributing four points, allowed Nebraska to take a commanding 45-25 lead into the locker room.
Looking ahead, the Cornhuskers are set to face Saint Mary’s on Sunday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before heading to Creighton on November 22.
