RICHMOND, Va. — In a decisive performance on Wednesday night, Joe Bamisile recorded 20 points to help VCU secure a 63-42 victory over Merrimack.
Bamisile also contributed defensively with three steals, playing a significant role in the Rams’ success as they improved their record to 3-0. Phillip Russell was another standout for VCU, making 5 of 8 shots from the field. His sharpshooting from beyond the arc was evident as he hit 3 of 5 attempts, finishing with a total of 18 points after going 5 for 6 at the free-throw line.
For the Warriors, Adam Clark was the top scorer, ending the night with 19 points and adding five steals to his tally. Sean Trumper supported the effort with 16 points and recorded two steals.
VCU seized control of the game early, establishing a lead with 14:37 left in the first half and maintaining it throughout. By halftime, the Rams had built a significant margin, leading 38-17, which featured a 12-point contribution from Russell. The second half saw Bamisile leading the scoring for VCU with eight points.
The solid teamwork and effective defense from VCU were pivotal, ensuring that Merrimack could not mount a comeback during the game.
