EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback J.J. McCarthy received an injection in his right knee earlier this week to manage swelling that developed during his rehabilitation, as reported by head coach Kevin O’Connell on Wednesday.

McCarthy, who was selected as the 10th overall pick in the recent NFL draft, suffered a meniscus tear during the first preseason game on August 10th, which led to a season-ending surgical procedure.

“We just wanted to ensure there weren’t any reasons to worry,” O’Connell mentioned. “All feedback has been very encouraging, and he remains on track with the original recovery schedule and is in good condition.”

The rookie quarterback from Michigan has shown significant improvement and is now able to regularly participate in team meetings and practices. The coaching staff has noted his eagerness to learn and absorb information while supporting the starting quarterback, Sam Darnold, along with experienced backups Nick Mullens and Brett Rypien.

“He’s shown considerable growth,” O’Connell added.
