DUBLIN — In a significant court appearance, mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor asserted on Wednesday that his encounter with a woman who is alleging sexual assault was consensual and accused her of fabricating her claims.
McGregor made his declarations during a proceeding in the High Court in Dublin, fervently denying the allegations. “Everything is a lie,” he insisted, describing the situation as “a full blown lie among many lies.”
The woman, who has accused McGregor of a violent sexual assault, testified previously that the incident occurred in a penthouse at a Dublin hotel on December 9, 2018. According to her accounts, she endured severe injuries and developed post-traumatic stress disorder following an altercation where McGregor reportedly restrained her on a bed, placed her in a headlock, and issued threats against her life during what was described as a chaotic night of partying.
Despite the allegations, law enforcement conducted an investigation but did not file charges against McGregor. The defense team highlighted inconsistencies in the woman’s testimony, revealing that she had not communicated any threats to her life to investigators. Furthermore, they presented surveillance footage that seemingly showed her interacting amicably with McGregor after their time in the hotel room, including moments where she was seen kissing his arm and hugging him.
McGregor refuted the woman’s testimony regarding a moment where he allegedly stated, “now you know how I felt in the octagon,” which referenced his experiences in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He argued that it is far-fetched to believe he would draw attention to any weaknesses, given his prideful nature.
He emphasized that their intimacy was mutual and that, while it was vigorous, he did not engage in any behavior that could be construed as forceful or aggressive. McGregor dismissed the woman’s assertions as mere fantasy and claimed her visible bruising was a result of an accidental fall into a bathtub during their festivities together.
The ongoing legal proceedings have garnered significant attention, reflecting broader conversations around consent, personal conduct, and the implications of celebrity status within legal frameworks.
