NORMAN, Okla. — Raegan Beers delivered an impressive performance, scoring 27 points along with nine rebounds, as the No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners achieved a remarkable 122-56 victory over Western Carolina on Wednesday.
Beers, who recently earned recognition as the AP Player of the Week, continued her standout play after transferring from Oregon State. The 6-foot-4 forward became the first player in 16 years for the Sooners to register consecutive games with at least 20 points and 14 rebounds. Her shooting efficiency was particularly noteworthy, as she hit 12 of her 14 attempts from the field against the Catamounts.
In addition to Beers’ outstanding contribution, Sahara Williams chipped in with 16 points, while Skylar Vann contributed 15 points for the Sooners, who showcased a stellar shooting performance, hitting 63.2% of their shots overall.
Oklahoma reached the milestone of 100 points thanks to a 3-pointer by Zya Vann with 6:45 left in the game, eventually setting a new school record by surpassing the previous high of 121 points when Caya Smith scored off a steal and layup with just 1:46 remaining.
This was the third consecutive blowout win for the Sooners, with previous victories including a 76-44 triumph over Southern and a 95-51 win against Virginia.
For Western Carolina, Tyja Beans led the team with 13 points; however, her performance was hindered as she made only 5 of 17 shots. The Catamounts struggled offensively, finishing the game with a shooting percentage of just 29%.
Takeaways from the game highlighted the disparity in competition for Western Carolina, which had previously opened their season with three victories but faced a significant upgrade in skill against Oklahoma. Although the Catamounts fought hard, they simply did not possess the size and talent required to compete effectively. Their earlier wins against Campbell and Radford were by a margin of just three total points.
On the other hand, the Sooners dominated every aspect of play throughout the match, leaving little doubt about the outcome. They scored 34 points in the first quarter and followed up with 35 points in the third, showcasing depth by having 12 players score.
A pivotal moment came as Oklahoma closed out the second quarter with an 11-0 scoring run, taking a commanding 56-25 lead at halftime.
A key statistic from the game was Oklahoma’s dominance on the boards, where they out-rebounded the Catamounts by a substantial margin of 53 to 23.
Looking ahead, Western Carolina’s next matchup is against USC Upstate on Saturday, while Oklahoma will travel to face Wichita State on November 19.
