MEDFORD, N.Y. — Authorities have taken a 20-year-old volunteer firefighter into custody for allegedly starting a brush fire in Long Island, as reported by local police on Wednesday.
The incident took place in a wooded area around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The flames resulted in damage to a vehicle that was parked nearby.
The individual is set to face arraignment on Wednesday and is charged with arson and reckless endangerment; however, it remains uncertain whether he has secured legal representation.
This event has occurred during a time when numerous fires have erupted throughout New York and the wider Northeast region, largely attributed to extremely dry weather conditions prevailing in the area.
