NEW YORK — James Patterson has embarked on a new philanthropic venture that deepens his connection to his alma mater, Manhattan University.
The acclaimed author is collaborating with the university to launch the James Patterson Honors Program. This initiative aims to equip high-achieving students with robust skills in critical thinking, writing, and creative problem-solving, preparing them for successful careers across various sectors, as announced by the institution on Wednesday.
The program is set to begin in the upcoming fall semester and will feature an array of valuable components including workshops, internships, mentorships, and networking opportunities designed to enhance students’ professional experiences.
“Our goal in this leadership program is to offer participants a strong foundation in essential areas such as writing and innovative problem-solving, paired with substantial professional preparation and connections to industry leaders across diverse fields,” Patterson stated.
At 77 years old, Patterson, who pursued an English major at Manhattan University—formerly known as Manhattan College—graduated in 1969 and later completed a master’s degree at Vanderbilt University. Over the years, he has generously donated millions to support bookstores and libraries, as well as establishing scholarships to assist incoming students at Manhattan University.
